December 2021

Dear readers,

2021 is almost over; for better or for worse, it’s been a year to keep us all on our toes!

Please note that all CHRC staff will be on Holiday the 27th and 28th of December, 2021, as well as the 3rd of January, 2022. Our personnel will be enjoying staggered and sporadic days away from work so please email info@culturalhrc.ca for rapid assistance or support, we’re available in case you need us!

Below is a summary of the year’s activities and some invitations for our readers, please feel free to share and disseminate the messages.

From all of us at CHRC, we wish you a great Holiday Season and look forward to starting 2022 with you!!

In this issue!

A quick look back at CHRC's 2021…

2021 has been exceptional for internships; CHRC’s new Student Work Placement (SWP) program (funded by Employment and Social Development Canada) has received and processed upwards of 145 subsidy requests with funding of up to $7,500 per internship. This program is still accepting requests into the new year (subsidies are offered till March 31st, 2022) and employers are encouraged to submit a request for internships even during the Holidays. Information sessions and points of contact appear below.

CHRC’s Young Canada Works (YCW) program (funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage) funded 80 internships with 54 not-for-profit employers receiving wage subsidies of up to $15,000. See below for more details on the request and intake process for 2022-2023.

The Respectful Workplaces in the Arts (RWA) workshops (funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage) were delivered to over 190 participants from over 20 organizations between April and December with a dozen more workshops being scheduled in the first quarter of 2022. Request a workshop for your organization before the program ends on March 31st, 2022.

With funding from the Ontario Arts Council, the Cross Sectoral Recovery Roundtables (CSRR) have begun work on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility tools and resources for cultural sector establishments. Ultimately, we aim for a greater sense of belonging for all Canadians to participate in the cultural sector and its endeavours.

Funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, The Art of Managing Your Career (TAMYC) and its 8 discipline enhancements are at various stages of updating and review.

2021 has seen quite a bit of movement from a staffing and governance perspective at CHRC. Our long-serving, wonderful and dedicated colleagues Lucie D’Aoust and Erma Barnett retired recently after decades of service to the organization. You are both missed and we wish you well in this new phase of life. On the flipside of these departures Michael Lechasseur (and I) are joined by new CHRC colleagues Sofia Downing, Honorine Muhirwa, Frédérique Coulaud, Audrey Séguin and Rosemary Paul, welcome aboard!

CHRC’s Board of Directors also saw a lot of movement at the AGM. Long-serving Board members Richard Hornsby (Chair), Kevin Hanson (Past-Chair), Kathleen DeLong (Vice-Chair), Parise Mongrain (Secretary) were all at the end of possible mandate renewals. Ryhna Thomson (Music and Sound Recording) and Barbara Nepinak (Indigenous representative), continuing in their respective Board roles, are joined by new members Veronique Mack (Live Performing Arts) and David Plant (Digital Media). The new Executive Committee in CHRC’s Board of Directors is now composed of continuing Board members Janis Lundman (Chair), Zainub Verjee (Vice-Chair) and Victoria Steele (Treasurer) who are joined by David Swail (Secretary).

Of course, a word of thanks to our members for their support throughout 2021. We look forward to continuing to work with you in 2022. Speaking of which, the Holidays are a great time to sign up or renew your membership with CHRC!

Kind regards,

Grégoire
